April 2012 ABU! Takeover Show - DOWNLOAD

Helloooooo everybodyyyyyyy. Hellooooooooo, na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na-naaaaaaaa!!

Track listing in the Comments
So here it is, the April Edition of The Ageing B-Boys Unite! Takeover Show on Disco Scratch Radio which went out on the air yesterday evening.

I know I'm always banging on about getting in the chatroom each Thursday to get involved live when the Disco Scratch shows are on but last night was exceptional.

The chatroom was pretty full with such regulars as Inch, Hayhooooooe, Waxer, RobinS, Wock, RuseOne, Scenes, JimCee, Grixter, Bradski, Ridla, SteveB, Metronik, Sine, LG, CoolC all in attendance at sometime throughout the evening.
And we even had an honorary appearance from the man like Agent Finch for a fleeting time as well! Brraaapp!

As well as this there were some new faces such as SDK, myhiphophistory, deathop, SirGandalfSpamDigger (hmmmm...) and, er, Bob_James.

However there were two more newbies in the chat that I was very happy to see, namely Future Radio's very own Hip Hop Sessions regular, DJ Mr Eps who dropped in and fueled a Grange Hill debate. And also we had the legendary underground actress and ex-FUN Gallery owner, Patti Astor stop by and chat, too. You may remember Patti as 'Virginia', the lady reporter in Wild Style. She regularly posts in the ABU! Facebook Group as well and drops serious knowledge and great anecdotes about the early 80's hip hop scene in New York City.

There was a great vibe throughout the evening which made the session pretty special. Then there was a 30-minute bonus beat after-hours session with Waxer putting on some nice Nautilus-related joints. And then........ the mother of all Easter Eggs. If you were listening you would have heard the world's first full-length play of 'Strong' which is the opening track from the upcoming WD-40 EP from Whirlwind D & Waxer. Remember, anything played AFTER 11pm is not part of the download version of the show. This is all strictly live. There will be no re-runs, brother.

Big shout to my man, Ric Flair from the Strictly Business crew. These guys make some of the dopest and most comprehensive compilations known to man. Ric chose this month's selection in the Album Spotlight section (see Comments for the reveal).

Thanks to EVERYONE to tuned in live last night and of course to anyone who is listening to the download. Your support is greatly appreciated. This is from the heart.

One Love.
Respect.
Truth is absolute.

P.S. Oh yeah, just for fun but a task for you retro game-heads out there. Can you guess the intro music I've messed with right at the beginning of the show?

Zoinks! 4 Years!

I had a funny feeling it was around this time.

On the 20th of April 2008 I decided to start the Ageing B-Boys Unite! blog.
I'm not sure exactly why; maybe it was the lack of seeing what I wanted to see in a blog from my own perspective.
Those who were there in the beginnings of ABU! saw that there were a lot more uploads and MP3 files. These slowly dissipated until I felt that I was not the right vehicle for these as there were a million other blogs already catering for these.

I've met a load of good people through the blog; some in the flesh and a lot of others over the internet. There seems to be a loyal following which is actually growing all the time and for that I am truly grateful.

I want to say thank you to everyone who has ever helped in whatever way, big or small, or even just left a positive comment over these past four years

Keep following. And if you haven't, please listen to the ABU! Takeover Podcast show which goes out once a month via Disco Scratch Radio. This is the musical embodiment of what I and my blog stands for.

Thank you.

Album Spotlight Requests - STOP!!

I just want to send out a massive THANKS to everyone who has requested an album for inclusion on the Album Spotlight feature on this month's ABU! Podcast.

However, I'm being inundated with requests and the bad news is.... they're all DAMN GOOD choices. It's not gonna be easy to pick so I will put all the albums in a big Kangol and choose one at random.

Thanks again to everyone.
Keep it locked.

Disco Scratch VINYL RELEASE NEWS!

Happy, happy, joy, joy!!

It has been announced this evening that my mellow, WAXER from Disco Scratch is on the cusp of releasing the first piece of wax from Tru-Tone Records with none other than Liberty Grooves honcho, WHIRLWIND D.
Have a listen to the track samples below which will form the WD-40 EP release and see if you can't fail to realise how dope this record is.

'32 And Tea' contains a slice of mellow groove-cake to accompany the exquisite Britishness rhyme content. You may well recall this being played as an Easter Egg after a couple of Disco Scratch radio shows.

'Hunter' is a really, really well-produced cut with some serious rolling drum breaks chugging alongside a beautiful instrumental sample.

The daddy of the bunch - at least to these ears - is the recognisable Disco Scratch Show opener track now entitled, 'Strong'.
You may be forgiven for thinking you are listening to the intro to another DS show. Well, yes. But now it has the inclusion of WHIRLWIND D on vocals which just sends the track straight into the stratosphere.
I remember when Waxer made this initial cut soon after the 3 The Hard Way gig back in December 2010 and was buzzing about the whole thing. The energy obviously spilled out into the music and he created this monster of a tune which turned everyone on their heads after making it a regular feature on his weekly radio show.

Add to this the stupid-fresh skills of Brighton's THEORY77 on the wheels and the result is a phenomenal slab of black plastic.

Oh yeah, we're not done. This EP has been mixed and mastered by THE ASSEMBLY WORKER who knows a thing or two about a thing or two. He has pushed the controls to the max so that the pressing will be undoubtedly louder and contain more sonic power than a roomful of cackling Essex girls.
And to finish the whole project off, we have the supreme design talents of a certain MR KRUM who most recently was behind the album cover of DJ Format's 'Statement Of Intent'. Yes folks, this isn't some cheapo, white label affair. We're talking properly-labelled vinyl AND fully-designed record cover.

There will be an initial release of only 300 copies and is sensibly-priced at only £6.99

Now, I haven't been paid to say nice things about this piece of plastic but when you witness the hard work that has gone into the making of a project such as this and the finished result then it makes you want to shout it from the rooftops.
Ultimate respect to everyone involved in the making of this. And props the the UK's hardest working homeboy, Mr Disco Scratch himself, Waxer, for getting this out just moments before his 40th!

The following is from the man himself, WHIRLWIND D:

The record should be ready to ship in around 4-6 weeks.
