ABU Disco Scratch Takeover Show - June 2012

It was one week late but I hope it was worth the wait.

Thanks to Waxer's bombardment of Facebook promo-plastering, there was a good amount of heads in the chat this week. Remember, tell a friend to tell a friend!

This month I introduced another new section showcasing the DJ in hip hop. This will be a monthly feature as it's important that we NEVER forget this integral part of the music. To paraphrase one of the kids from the BBC doc, The Lowdown, the dj is "the cassette, he is the backing track.....he's almost the real thing - but he's portable".

One of the best tracks for me was the Jorun Bombay remix of T LA Rock & Jazzy Jay's 'It's Yours". Jorun is heavy with the DWG crew and although living in Canada, still rocks - big shout to NOE ;-)

I also gave out news of an upcoming ABU! show - a retro special - however I think I may have been a bit over keen if I want to provide that for the next show which is in just 3 short weeks. Hey ho, we'll see. Stranger things have happened.

The Album Spotlight this month was sent in by Ian. He requested a couple of tunes from Def Defiance which are both barnstormers, believe! Word around the campfire is that the album may be getting a vinyl release this year as prior to now it was only available on cassette tape.

Thanks again for everyone who caught the show live on Disco Scratch Radio. The link to listen from here is available below. To save to your electronic listening device you must right-click and save on the link.

Tracklisting in the comments.

  3. DL'd the show and listened to it at work, I caught the SWR shoutout at the end. It was like hearing ya name getting mentioned on pirate radio back in the day.
    Big up.

  4. Great show as always Ben. A Kraftwerk remix of Planet Rock? That's ironic (or something). Great to hear Gucci Again again, I sold all my Schoolly CDs in a moment of financial tightness so I don't get to hear much of Philly's finest these days, forgot all about that track. And holy crap, that Rammellzee live shizzle was the bomb. In fact it was a bomb that was packed in a box of dynamite and generously garnished with gunpowder. With a few caps bunged on the top.

Love the sound of next month's show, I too remember watching the clock count down the minute before watching How We Used to Live or Maths in a Box. Hit me up if you want any 70s cheeseball library music (in fact there was a CD released that featured the music from a lot of these school programmes, unfortunately it's deleted and mucho expensivos these days). Right, enough rambling. Magic show.

Hey, this is REPO! While I love to see your comments, if you leave one under ANON why not put your real or chosen name at the end of the message?

Peace.
