Breaking news....Derek B Dead

Unconfirmed reports coming in at the moment that one of Britian's pioneering rappers Derek B (Derek Boland) has passed away in hospital from a heart attack.
This is devastating news for any hip hop fan and mostly for the UK b-boys who grew up with his records.

It's true. I got an email from Simon Harris of Derek's old label Music Of Life this morning informing me. (We all worked together back in the day). Someone put the notice of his death up on Wikipedia earlier this morning. Simon also wrote that Derek's next of kin, his beloved mother was away on holiday and didn't know yet. I'm assuming that's why his Wikipedia page was quickly changed back, listing him as "living". I'm still not sure if she knows. Derek was 44 and apparently died of a heart attack in London.

This is a total shock to me,very unexpected. Looking back at what old rap/hip hop i liked it wasn't much UK,but Derek B was an exception. A talented guy for sure. He goes down as another great artist from my favourite time in music(the 80's),that i still listen 2. RIP.

Gutted man gutted. To me he was the first brit rapper and came out just in time when we were getting forcefed US rap.
RIP man and peace and love to his family.
