ABU Podcast #66 - 1970s Special DOWNLOAD
Here's the latest ABU Podcast and as promised it's a 1970s special.
It was a blast going through tons of old tunes, and trying to pick out stuff was extremely difficult as there was just so much choice - there will definitely have to be another one.
Listen in the Player above or click the Download option (also in the above Player).
The tracklisting is below but I recommend you listening 'blind' and seeing if you can guess the audio first.
Cheers,
Mr Repo

Welcome along to this edition of the ABU Podcast #66.
We're trying something different this time and taking an excursion way into the past, right back to the 1970s. So expect a trip down Memory Lane as we delve into some long-forgotten television theme tunes - some you may remember and others you may well have forgotten for good reason.
The 1970s is having somewhat of a renaissance recently and I'm more drawn to the spooky side of it. So that involves the worrying public information films that used to be shown very frequently during kids' tv and also the emergence of a musical genre called Hauntology which is a modern throwback to the unnerving synthesizer pieces you may have heard during those PIFs.
Anyway, sit back and enjoy the show. I've given this a 5-headphone rating so you'll enjoy more in a quiet darkened room with a pair of headphones on. Preferably with a can of Tizer and some Spangles.

Always look forward to the ABU excursion shows and this one should have come with a paper hat and a small toy. Why you ask? Beacause it was A CRACKER, do you see?
Nice (sort of) to hear some of the old public information films. I remember very vividly being shown Never Go With Strangers when I was at primary school, it terrified the actual Christ out of me. And Lonely Water never loses its power to depress. Donald Pleasence? Donald UNpleasance more like.
Some other classic TV tunes scattered about - I've always loved the Wonder Woman theme and the flute-drenched joy that is High Life, and it's never the wrong time for the Monkey theme. I was watching an episode of Monkey the other day - he called one of his enemies a poofter! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, so I LaughCried(TM)
The Windy Miller track was superb and it was great to hear some Franco Micalizzi. I recommend his Syndicate Sadists soundtrack, samey but very nice.
Great to have you back sir!
Chief Inspector Ramses (Retd.)
P.S. Apologies for the tardy feedback, I came back from holiday recently and have been battling massive depression ever since.
I always look forward to your input, Mr Ramses. Being possibly ABU's Longest Serving Fan you must be due some sort of medal or something.
Really glad you enjoyed this one and you being a fan of the occasional library or obscure funk track then I'm happy I delivered to your expectations.
Those italian police dramas of the era seem best avoided and I'm happy just listening from the safety of my headphones, I reckon.
I've always enjoyed (if that's the right word) watching PIFs and actually discovered a load more since completing this podcast. If that's your bag then I suggest going to the BFI website and searching 'PUBLIC INFORMATION FILMS'.
I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, mate. If you ever want a sympathetic ear just drop us a line - I think you've got my email address). This is something that affects many of us in many different stages.
Stay fresh, homes.

....and that's why he's the king of Norwich.
Many thanks Ben, I may have been slighty overplaying the post-holiday blues but I hear where you're coming from and it's truly appreciated.
On the subject of Italian police thrillers, I'm a sucker for European genre cinema so I'm probably a lot more forgiving than most. (And much like the Public Information Films they're a goldmine for dialogue rips)but yeah, the soundtracks are probably a safer bet for the uninitiated!
All the best mate.
